Each year, high-achieving and talented high school, undergraduate, and graduate students are selected to work in New York City as part of the NYSCF Summer Internship Program, a ten-week unique summer enrichment internship program that provides students a rare glimpse into the fast-paced world of stem cell research, insight into life at an entrepreneurial nonprofit research institute, exposure to career opportunities in science, and connections to valuable professional and peer networks.

Participants have the opportunity to gain direct experience with stem cells and science through joining one of four program tracks:

  • Laboratory Research interns conduct project-based research in the NYSCF Research Institute under the guidance of a NYSCF scientist. Interns receive projects that align with their disease area interests.
  • Software Engineering interns work closely with our software engineers on projects to optimize the NYSCF Global Stem Cell Arrayยฎ, our automated system of robots that produce induced pluripotent stem cell lines.
  • Data Science / Bioinformatics interns assist in managing microscopic image acquisition, data handling, and quality analysis of large datasets.
  • Programs Administration interns join one of the teams at the office headquarters, which range from business development to communications and government relations, to external affairs, among others. This is an administrative position.

The 2021 Program is scheduled to run from June 7, 2021 โ€“ August 13, 2021.

Please note that for the 2021 Summer Program, NYSCF will offer both onsite and remote internships dependent on the intern track. Laboratory Research interns should plan to be onsite at The NYSCF Research Institute. Programs Administration, Software Engineering, and Data Science / Bioinformatics interns will work remotely.

NYSCF does not provide housing stipends or accommodations, but the summer internship is a paid position.
